PHDL Released

PHDL is an open-source research-based Hardware Description Language that models text-based schematics for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). Its primary objectives are to increase designer productivity by overcoming limitations of scale, collaboration, and design reuse inherent with many graphical schematic capture CAD tools.

Paper Awarded Community Service Award at FPL'2011

A paper published by Chris Lavin at this year's FPL conference received the FPL 2011 Community Service Award. The paper described RapidSmith, an open-source Xilinx FPGA CAD framework developed within the B1-10 and B1-11 projects.

BYU Students Irradiate FPGA

Students traveled to Texas A&M University's Cyclotron twice in 2011 to perform radiation testing on FPGAs. This work will help industry members who use FPGAs in space applications better understand radiation effects on FPGAs and how to mitigate against them.

Open Source FPGA CAD Tool RapidSmith Released

RapidSmith is a research-based FPGA CAD tool written in Java for modern Xilinx FPGAs. Based on XDL, its objective is to serve as a rapid prototyping platform for research ideas and algorithms relating to low level FPGA CAD tools.

About Us

We are interested in the research of high-performance systems that are based on FPGAs and FPGA-like devices. Research areas that are of current interest include: run-time reconfiguration, hybrid FPGA architecture, DSPs and FPGAs, and application-specific processors. The lab has a strong applications focus and has developed applications, demonstrations, and tutorials for many of the currently available FPGA platforms.
